The book arrived on time and was truly an exciting read for a DIY mechanic or hobbyist like myself. Read the entire book in about 1 1/2 wks, do to my work schedule. Enjoyed it a lot! I gave it a rating of four because of the Left Top picture on pg 119. You will notice, that the Float needle is in the wrong installation position and contrary to what the factory service manual advises. And they advise against clipping the needle tang in that particular location. Yes... I have a keen eye, because I am a Professional Automotive Detailer and own my own company, so I tend to pay attention to detail. After noticing that... I started to question some of the other so called technical info that he volunteered. Not to say it's wrong, but just wondering...then I remembered the cover of the book and title. "How to Rebuild and Modify the Rochester Quadrajet". Key word being " Modify". So in my opinion he is completely correct in his modification, although against the recommendations of the service manual. So now my rating has changed to five, because the float needle was probably intentionally installed in that position as a part of his modification. I chose to opted to the factory servic manual recommendation on this particular issue. Very good read, though.

Cliff Ruggles is the guru of the Q-jet. As a Pontiac enthusiast for 40 years and owning numerous Pontiac cars with the Q-jet, I used to, and still do, rebuild, modify, and adjust my own Q-jets. For many, you either love them or hate them, but the haters usually come from the lack of understanding these carbs and how to tear them down and rebuild them correctly. Cliff's book is a complete guide to identifying your carb, disassembly, reassembly, and modifications that make the Q-jet even better and more tailored to your engines upgrades. Cliff offers a Q-jet rebuild service that is always back logged, so his book offers a look at what he actually does for those who don't have the skills to rebuild their own Q-jet and gives those who do all the guidance and tricks to improve on their rebuild. Learned a lot from this book myself.

I orgingally had my carb build by a prominent carb builder, but it never ran right despite paying well over $600. I bought Cliff's book and his rebuild kit, bought a 800cfm carb off of eBay..my classic car has never ran better. I would highly recommend this book. I wish the lay out could have been better, as there is a lot of flipping back and forth but a great book nonetheless.

Cliff is a great guy that really is helpful with Quadrajet carburetors, He has an online forum where people provide solutions and help with carburetor problems. This book offers a complete description of the Quadrajet carburetor and how to modify it for high performance engines. Anyone who has ever tried to use one on a modified engine knows how hard this can be. Cliff's book makes it easier. It is written in a very understandable language that guides you through the entire process. It also explains the logic behind why you are making the changes. I have been tuning Quadrajet carburetors for many years, this book made me understand how they really work. For years I had Doug Roe's books on the shop workbench like a bible. Now we use Cliffs book as our go to book for information. Doug's books are great, but they assume you are a fluid dynamics engineer with a firm grasp on the design of the carburetor. Cliff's book shows you how to make one work, Doug's books tell you the it has been done with great success. If you work on a lot of quadrajet carbs, odds are you already own Doug's book. If you don't have Cliffs book you are missing a chapter of the story, the final one, by the way.

Cliff's book is one of those "must-haves" if you're going to seriously mess with your QJ. It has lots of modification information that is not necessary for the average rebuilder, but it is still nice to know, and helps understanding of how these carbs work.Word to the wise: Cliff recommends removing your idle air tubes to clean out the wells underneath. These may be very easy or very hard to remove. Mine were very hard, and I could only get them out by destroying them, and, when they were out, the well underneath was perfectly clean, so it was all unnecessary.Cliff was happy to sell me a new pair of tubes, which worked fine.

As good as it gets for Quadrajet carb rebuild. Illustrated. Lots of reading and directions. However if you are completely clueless about carb rebuild you'll need to use this with maybe a youtube video for some help.

Good book if you are already familiar with the Q-jets. The Q-jet "101" portion was lacking largely due to the many different variants. In other words, it was over my head.

Well written book with plenty of high quality color photographs and descriptions. Several aspects that aren't covered in the Chilton/Haynes repair guides and the factor repair manual are gone into much more detail here. The only thing I would recommend, however, is if they ever decide to release an updated addition, to include a section discussing the electronic feedback AKA computer command control (CCC) carburetors and their required adjustments/tuning. Those types of carburetors require more patience and knowledge on how to tune them; having updated information in the book would be mighty helpful.
