Seriously?!I ordered this book because of the amazing reviews.....sometimes I'm duped by reviews....this is one of those times.Going in my goodwill pile. The pics don't even go with the words.these reviews MUST HAVE BEEN from people who got for free or something.Amazon won't let me post pics for some reason.I will try at a later date and try to postTo explain the book:The book has pics of a few kids quickly sketched out with a dog.One page simply says-"In order to form a perfect union" and has a pic of the dog carrying luggage and straining as one boy laughs and the other makes a gesture to be careful (to the dog).....huh??Another page simply says -"Insure domestic tranquility" and has the dog watching tv outside while the two kids are behind him. One child has a pan boinking off his head and the other kid is holding a rope that is loosely around the others body....huh?!Another page simply says-"Promote the general welfare" and has three kids smiling while inside a tent as they gather around a camp light. the dog stands with a decorated brown paper bag on his head as he stands in the tent door.....huh?!Those are Just a few examples. Each page has a simple line and a picture.WorthlessSearch on my friends. I recently decided that it was important for my six year-old to become familiar with the U.S. Constitution. Why? I teach citizenship at the university level and now know how few people have actually read the Constitution before they enter my class. In fact, I spend weeks going over the document just so that we can begin to have respectful discussions as a class about citizenship. I wanted my child to have an early start on thinking about the document. This book was a nice way to help my child think about what, for even my students, can be the tricky language of the Preamble. It should be noted that the text of this book is just the Preamble. This means that you, parent or teacher, need to have a bit of understanding about the Constitution, too. If you are looking for a book on the Constitution for a child this age, it's pretty safe to assume that you do. However, before you read, I recommend that you look through the book by yourself first and think about how each picture is illustrating the portion of the Preamble that appears on the page. A little bit of preparation can go a long way when reading this book and breaking it down for a young child.
What a wonderful introduction to the U.S. Constitution. I used this book as a springboard for a 2nd grade Constitution lesson. I am a library media teacher at an elementary school. I was so pleased to find this book for the children. The big words are in tact and are explained visually in the illustrations. An everyday word translation of the Preamble is included. What an excellent introduction! Engaging images of children camping with their dog and trying to get along.
My daughter responds very well to learning through books. She loves these pictures and it really helps the words to stay in her memory. We worked on the preamble a little a few months prior to purchasing this book, but since we have read it several times (in just a couple of weeks time), she almost has the whole preamble memorized. THANK YOU FOR THIS BOOK!!!! It was a genius idea. And moreover, I really appreciate all of the definitions and explanations for each line of the preamble located at the front of the book. It is important to us that our children don't just remember the words, but they also know the meaning. Sometimes we do not always know how to explain the meaning of such things in a way that our children will understand. This thoughtful portion of the book really allows her to easily comprehend the words that she is learning. I highly recommend.
Not quite sure what happened here...the book is a picture book with the words to the Preamble on the pages. I expected "fun-filled" read with the kids, as the description stated. The kids were disappointed when all it was was an illustrated Preamble, which they had already learned and memorized. We returned it.
This is a wonderful book for teaching my students about citizenship. With this election year being such an important one, this book is perfectly written and timely for my students who are ages 6-10. The illustrations are brilliant and amazing and the book is one we have read over and over! We the Kids is perfect for our study as we embark on a school year united in learning.
This is an amazing way to introduce our grandchildren to the Constitution. The visuals are amazing - the writing makes the book fun - Since our grandchildren are growing up in a country with an amazing history and the oldest Constitution, it is time for them to feel a part of the process.
Such a cute book with excellent pictures! My students love this and it makes it so much fun to teach about our government. There are explanations and is easier for kids to understand the language better. David Catrow does not let down!
